Common Grounds with Kevette Minor Kane: Her Happy Place

ree

My first happy place is the golf course. I love it because it’s outdoors without being in the “outdoors”, if you know what I mean. I get to enjoy the sunshine and the beautiful green landscapes while playing one of my favorite games. So, when I began gardening I found my second happy place for a similar reason. I get to enjoy the green landscapes and be active at the same time. This is different though. In the garden I get to put my hands in the soil, care for the plants and enjoy the fruit of my labor. In the garden I can see creative work in action and the results make my heart smile.

There’s nothing like planting a seed and then watering and watching with anticipation as it grows. The beautiful thing is that I may just water it based on the reminders I set for myself and because of my busy schedule I’ll look over and one day there’s this cute little sprout popping up out of the soil. That little seed grew into a seedling. This new baby of the garden world requires special attention and forces me to slow down just a bit to give it the care required. In exchange, I get the care I need by slowing down to “smell the flowers” or in this case to tend to them. I enjoy growing herbs for tea and enjoying my own uniquely creative blends. I’m a member of the Nemas Gardens team and so that makes me a member of the community as well. As a member of the community I enjoy chatting with other gardeners about challenges or sharing successes. It truly brings me joy to contribute to and receive the love that comes with gardening. This is my happy place.
