Destiny Nwadike: Cultivating Independence and Insight at Nemas Gardens
Meet Destiny Nwadike, a proud graduate of Eleanor Roosevelt High School’s Class of 2025, whose curiosity and drive led her to dig deeper—literally and figuratively—during her internship at Nemas Gardens. With a love for wrestling and chess, Destiny brings both grit and strategy to everything she does. Her time at Nemas Gardens was no exception.
Goals That Grew Roots
Destiny entered the internship with two clear intentions:
To experience a real work environment and understand the rhythm, responsibility, and expectations that come with it.
To become more independent, learning how to navigate tasks and decisions with confidence.
Her choice to join Nemas Gardens was fueled by a desire to understand finance from the ground up. She wasn’t just looking to plant seeds—she wanted to learn how to manage the resources that help them grow.
Lessons from the Garden and Beyond
Throughout her internship, Destiny gained hands-on experience in both gardening and financial literacy. She learned:
How to plant and maintain crops, from soil preparation to watering schedules and pest management.
The basics of cash flow management, giving her a foundational understanding of budgeting and financial decision-making.
But perhaps the most transformative lesson came from opening her mind to something new.
“When I opened my mind to gardening during this program, I found myself having a bigger appreciation for it—and it made it much easier to connect with my peers.”
This shift in perspective not only deepened her respect for the natural world but also strengthened her relationships within the Nemas Gardens community.
Destiny’s Advice to Future Interns
Her message to those considering the program is simple yet powerful:
“Come in with an open mind.”
Whether you're passionate about plants or just curious about how a garden can teach you life skills, Destiny believes that embracing the experience fully is the key to growth—both personal and professional.
Destiny’s journey is a reminder that internships aren’t just about gaining skills—they’re about discovering new passions, building independence, and learning how to thrive in any environment. At Nemas Gardens, she didn’t just learn how to grow plants—she learned how to grow herself.
