Get ready to grow your own fresh herbs!
This simple, six-step guide will walk you through everything you need to know, from expanding the peat pellet to harvesting your first batch for a delicious addition to your favorite meals. Let's get planting!
A quick guide:
1. Prep the Pellet:
Place the peat pellet in a small bowl. Add 2-3 tablespoons of warm water and allow it to expand for a few minutes. Once expanded, use a spoon or your fingers to fluff the peat and loosen the soil.
2. Fill the Pot:
Transfer the fluffy, expanded peat into your small pot. Gently add a thin layer of extra soil on top for better drainage.
3. Plant the Seeds:
Sprinkle 2-3 herb seeds on top of the soil. Lightly press them into the soil, aiming for a depth of about $1/4$ inch—don't bury them too deep!
4. Water & Place:
Lightly water the soil until it is damp but not soaking wet. Place the pot in a warm, sunny spot (like a windowsill or under a grow light).
5. Ongoing Care:
Keep the soil moist, but not soggy. Water only when the top of the soil feels dry. Sprouts should appear in about 7–14 days.
6. Watch It Grow!
Once the herbs have grown a few inches tall, you can trim and use them in your favorite dishes!
“From a tiny peat pellet and a few drops of warm water, a cozy home is made for a whisper of seed. Give it light and gentle moisture, and in a matter of days, you've nurtured a kitchen's worth of fresh flavor.”
